About WHHE

Our Three-Fold Purpose:  The purpose of the WHHE Teen Group is to bring together home educated teens in Christ centered fellowship, to minister to the community through service projects, and to provide teens with learning & leading opportunities.  With a Code of Conduct at our core, students treat each other respectfully in a safe environment.  Our Student Council members learn to plan & lead social events as well as explore the possibilities to reach out to our local community & world in their coordination of service projects.

Fellowship - Making new friends & keeping up with our besties, socials provide opportunities to gather for kicking back & relaxing or high energy fun!  Events in the past have included annual parties (fall, Christmas, & spring), game nights, teen park days, escape room events, scavenger hunts, bowling, local Houston favorites, & others.  We also have an annual friends-only formal that includes an evening of dining & a special activity.  Past formals have included a yacht cruise, night at the symphony, & Broadway productions all coupled with a memorable, special meal including some of Houston's hottest, most sought after reservations.

Serving the Community - Students LOVE service & quickly realize the power they have when they invest a couple of hours of time to help others.  Outreach projects have included Kids' Meals Houston, Sole Hope, Houston Food Bank, park clean-ups, Operation Christmas Child, veteran care packages, no-sew projects for TX Wildlife Rescue, craft projects for local parks, gardens, & area animal shelters, Katy Prairie, & food drives.

Learning & Leadership Opportunities - We believe in helping our teens with the things that can seem so very uncomfortable for them.
Learning:  In the past, we have offered swing, Latin, & line dance lessons in the fall that have helped many skeptical students move to the dance floor with ease.  Etiquette classes are offered usually in the spring covering a variety of topics from table manners to conversation skills so students will be better equipped for social opportunities in the future (& our formal).  We will be adding to these a writing workshop & a secrets to success seminar.  In the writing workshop, we aim to help teens improve writing skills with the goal of giving them insight into the college entrance essay.  While this is not a writing basics class, it can also be helpful for those who are not headed to college but are seeking to develop their writing skills for future employment opportunities where written communication skills are important.  The success seminar is a great way for teens to learn the importance of skills that will set them up to succeed regardless of their next steps or where they are in the scope of middle or high school.

Leadership:  We also believe in giving them meaningful opportunities to lead, create, & be honored for their accomplishments.  Students can serve as a Student Leader-in-Training (L-i-T) & later run for Student Council where they learn the event planning skills to organize & lead our events.  The Yearbook Staff is a place to dive into layout, design, & magazine publishing while contributing to a professionally published yearbook.  First year staff also learn to edit their own work while second year staff members learn more about the editing process & serve in leadership editing elements of the larger book.  Our chapter of the Eta Sigma Alpha Honor Society is an outlet for those who qualify* to be honored for their academic achievement & complete their mission of serving the community.  ESA members also coordinate 2 service projects each year contributing to their leadership opportunities.

We do all of this in a spirit of RESPECT by focusing on what UNITES us instead of differences.  Any prospective member seriously considering our group should read our Code of Conduct page as well as both the Frequently Asked Questions & the Member Orientation (on a separate page under FAQs) to determine if this group is a good fit for their family.

*Qualifying is based on current requirements determined by the National Home School Honor Society of Eta Sigma Alpha national office as well as our own chapter requirements which all ESA chapters have.  Each chapter determines its own specific requirements & timeline.  Visit
http://www.etasigmaalpha.com/  for current eligibility requirements &/or contact our chapter at  omicron.esa@gmail.com  with questions or for more information about our chapter.
